Powerswitch ‘Win free power for a year’ Prize Draw Terms and Conditions

1. Terms and conditions:  

1.1. This prize draw, called the ‘Win free power for a year’ prize draw (‘the Prize Draw’), is run by Powerswitch (‘Powerswitch’), a website owned and operated by Consumer NZ Incorporated (‘CNZ’).  

1.2. By participating in the Prize Draw, you agree to these terms and conditions. If you do not agree to these terms and conditions, you must contact us to opt out.  

2. What is the prize?

2.1. There will be one cash prize of $2,500 (‘Prize’) and one winner (Winner). The cash prize value is based on the 2025 annual average expenditure and consumption of electricity per New Zealand household according to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.  

3. Who can enter?  

3.1. All Prize Draw entrants must: 

  • be 18 years of age or over by 14 October 2025;  

  • be a New Zealand resident;  

  • have a New Zealand bank account; and  

  • be an individual person (i.e., not a business, club or school). 

3.2. Powerswitch and Consumer NZ Board members, employees, contractors, and their immediate families are not eligible to enter the Prize Draw.  

3.3. You can only enter the Prize Draw once. Additional entries will be invalid.  

 

4. How to enter  

4.1. To enter to win the Prize Draw, you must:  

  • complete the entry form on Meta or the Powerswitch website between 11am on 14 October 2025 and 11.59pm on 23 November 2025 (Cut Off Date); or 

  • be a registered Powerswitch user who has not unsubscribed from email communications as of 11.59pm on the Cut Off Date.  

  

5. Winner notification and announcement  

5.1. Powerswitch will draw the Winner at random within two working days of the Cut Off Date.   

5.2. The Winner will be contacted at the email address provided on their entry form or at the time they registered with Powerswitch. If the Winner has not replied to us within 48 hours of our initial email, we will attempt to email the Winner again. If Powerswitch has not had a reply within 24 hours of our second email, it reserves the right to redraw the Prize. The final decision in respect of any Winner is at the sole discretion of Powerswitch and no correspondence will be entered into. 

5.3. By participating in the Prize Draw, the Winner agrees to Powerswitch publishing their name (in an agreed form) when announcing the winner of the Prize Draw and waives any claims to royalty, right or remuneration for such use.

5.4. All times stated in the Prize Draw, including the Cut Off Date, refer to New Zealand local time and all references to currency refer to New Zealand Dollars.  

6. Prize redemption 

6.1. The Winner will be required to provide their bank account details and may also be required to provide identity and age verification (e.g. driver’s licence, passport or birth certificate).  

6.2. The Prize will be paid to the Winner by bank transfer after Powerswitch has received the information required under clause 6.1 above. 

6.3. Powerswitch will not be responsible for any additional costs associated with claiming or receiving the Prize. 

6.4. Powerswitch reserves the right to refuse awarding the Prize to anyone it considers, in its sole discretion, has violated these terms and conditions, gained an unfair advantage, or won using fraudulent means. 

6.5. The Prize is not transferable or exchangeable. 

6.6. No other family members, friends, associates, or any other person may claim or redeem the Prize on the Winner’s behalf. 

7. Liability 

7.1. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Powerswitch and any associated promoter(s), agencies and/or companies shall not be liable in any way (including, without limitation, in negligence) for any loss or damage, whatsoever suffered (including, without limitation, indirect or consequential loss) or for any loss or damage or personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with the Prize Draw. CNZ’s liability to any entrant or Winner will be limited in all circumstances to a maximum of the value of the Prize.    

7.2. Powerswitch is not liable for any tax that may be payable as a result of the Winner winning the Prize.  

8. Privacy and Data use 

8.1. Your personal information will be collected and used by Powerswitch, a website owned and operated by Consumer NZ (“CNZ”), in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and Powerswitch’s Privacy Policy.   

8.2. We will use your personal information to contact you if you are the Winner of the Prize Draw, in accordance with clause 5.  

8.3. By entering the Prize Draw, you agree to receive marketing and promotional material from Powerswitch. You can stop these communications by following the ‘unsubscribe’ link on any Powerswitch email or by contacting Powerswitch directly. 

8.4. CNZ will not sell, disclose or distribute the personal information provided by entrants to any person, organisation, agency or other third party except as required by law and as provided for in these terms and conditions. 

8.5. This Prize Draw is in no way sponsored, endorsed by or administered by Facebook, Instagram or Google.
