1. Let Powerswitch do the work for you

By far, the easiest way to get onto the cheapest power plan as quickly as possible is to use Powerswitch’s clever calculator. It can compare more than 3,500 power and 500 gas plans available in New Zealand to find the one that’ll save you the most. Once you’ve chosen a plan that tickles your fancy, simply click “switch” to kick off the process. Don’t worry – your power won’t get cut off! The new power company will get in touch to confirm you want to make the switch.

2. Find a cheaper power plan on Powerswitch then contact the company yourself

If you’re a bit nervous about hitting “switch”, you might want to take the results Powerswitch has shown you and contact the cheapest company yourself. And that’s fine! Our goal is to save you money. However you make the switch, we’re just happy to help get the ball rolling. If you have any questions about the results you can also contact us – we'd be happy to talk you through it.

3. Ask your power company to match the cheaper offer

If you spot a cheaper plan, but would rather stay with your existing provider, try chatting with them. Ask your provider if they’ll offer you a similar deal to stay. About 10% of Powerswitch users tell us they do just that. Many retailers will offer a better price to keep a long-standing customer. And that’s a great result. But if your current provider doesn't want to come to the party, it’s time to vote with your feet!

With the market always changing, it pays to check often for the best deals. We compare thousands of electricity and gas plans for free. Do a quick check to see how much you could be saving.
