Powershop info

Powershop's highly customised pricing model means it's harder to compare its prices with other electricity plans.

How we calculate estimates for Powershop plans

Powershop offers customised tariffs which are affected by your level of consumption, patterns of power use over the year, and metering configurations.

We've developed a calculation method that allows us to give an estimate of annual costs for Powershop products that takes into account all these variables.

There are some limits on the estimates provided:

  • Powershop provides us with a forecast of what its charges will be for the next 12 months. These forecasts are adjusted on a monthly basis. The calculation of estimated annual cost uses these forecasts. This is slightly different to other retailers where the estimated annual cost is based on current tariffs.
  • The estimated annual cost is related to the Powershop default or standard tariff. One estimate includes the savings you receive if you buy a monthly product (called Simple Saver) and one does not include the savings from this product. Check the special conditions next to the Powershop plan in your results to see whether the savings from this monthly product are included.
  • From time to time Powershop offers specials or the option to advance purchase blocks of power for future use (Powerpacks). The estimates on Powerswitch do not include any of these Powerpacks or specials (other than Simple Saver).

Every care has been taken with estimates of annual cost for Powershop products. We are confident that the estimates we provide are as reliable as possible.

We'll be monitoring Powershop’s pricing to ensure the forecast data we’re using matches actual prices as closely as possible.
