About the graphs

The Powerswitch price trend graphs show rolling 3-year prices for annual electricity usage in the area specified.

The graphs provide a guide to general trends in electricity prices, show where specific electricity providers are in their pricing cycle, and show which providers are cheapest for a specific usage profile.

Important: while the graphs are based on a common electricity usage profile, it may not match your individual electricity use and so should be used as a guide only.

Technical details about the graphs:

  • Prices displayed are for the most common electricity plan type in the area, for a household of 3-4 people, using electric water-heating, electric cooking, and a mix of electric and other space-heating (for example, woodburners or gas heating).
  • Prices are for the standard pricing plan of this type from each retailer.
  • Prices include prompt and electronic payment discounts.
  • We use the cheapest available plan from each retailer. In some instances this may have special conditions attached. Any special conditions are listed on the main Powerswitch results pages.
  • We don’t include low-user pricing plans.
  • We don’t include pricing for providers that only supply electricity to people if they also have gas provided by the same company.
  • Prices displayed are for electricity only – we don't currently have price trends graphs for reticulated gas or bottled LPG.
  • Where data for a provider doesn't cover the full 3-year period, it is because we do not have a set of historical prices going back the full 3 years, or because that retailer has only more recently started operating in the area.
